Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS)

Electron Microprobe Analyses (EMPA) on samples to quantify mineral chemistry (via WDS). Note that wait times can be up to 1-month depending on the availability of the instrument we utilize at a local university.

LA-ICP-MS can determine mineral chemistry down to ppb levels, and often without any sample preparation. Lithium can be detected and measured by this method. This makes it the go-to analytical method for determining the chemical composition of Li-bearing minerals in samples. Note that Geolabs only facilitates this analysis. It is conducted by  local university or a partner lab in Sweden.
